The Cuddliest

of Sustainable Luxuries

Organic Fluff, from Ethically and Organically Raised Sheep

The Wool Pillow that feels like sleeping on a cloud

Oh, wool. It’s soft. It’s airy. It’s fluffy. It’s everything you’d want in a pillow. If you want a pillow that is soft, mouldable, and that you can layer up with the other 5 or 6 (thousand?) pillows in your bed already, the Oscar Pillow will be your new best friend. We’ve already boasted about the miraculous benefits of organic wool, but for the sake of celebrating how amazing this natural, sustainable and ethical fiber is, let’s put the benefits of organic wool out there once more!

Our Organic Wool is hypoallergenic, toxic-chemical free (no flame retardants, no Formaldehyde and other short-chain aldehydes, no heavy metals, no endocrine disruptors, no chlorinated benzenes, no ammonium compounds, no chlorinated paraffins), anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-dustmite, temperature regulating, and safe enough for babies!

Sleep Healthy, Deeply, Naturally

Sleep is a personal, and important part of our lives, that should be treated with the utmost care. If you’re looking to make your sleep ritual more relaxing, and looking for ways to enhance the comfort of your bed, The Oscar Pillow will add some good, fluffy goodness to your life.

We believe that 100% organic wool pillows are also great, if you’re looking to replace your down pillows. Down pillows might sound and perhaps feel luxurious, but there are quite a few reasons why they’re not on our list of pillows we want to make.

Organic Wool: A Much More Sensible & Ethical Alternative than Feathers & Down

In most cases down and feathers are stripped off live birds, which have a very short and poor quality life.

Our organic sheep are raised nearby our design studio (on organic farms in Austria and Slovenia). They are raised by local farmers who treat them with love and respect, and who make sure they live a long, healthy and happy life grazing their large, green pastures. The life expectancy of organic sheep is between 10 to 12 years (like large dogs!), but some live up to 20 years or longer.

To compare, ducks and other birds raised for their feathers or down, live up to only 3 to 4 years. And while there is such a thing as “Nest Harvested Down”, and it is technically more ethical than live plucking birds, “Nest Harvested” down is extremely pricy, as one nest during Nesting Season only contains 16g of down. You’d have to collect at least 30 nests to fill a whole pillow, and that would undoubtably come at a very high luxury price.

Anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-dustmite…

Organic Wool pillows are very resistant against bacteria and dustmites, as wool fibers provide a very inhospitable environment for them. Indeed, wool stays very dry, and can even absorb 2 times its weight in moisture, and still feel completely dry! So if you live in high humidity areas, and want a pillow that can help regulate the amount of moisture in your bed and bedroom, then an organic wool pillow is a great solution for you!

While feathers might be a very good insulator, they are prone to developing mold and bacteria, as feathers and down do a poor job at regulating moisture, and are very inviting towards dustmites and bacteria. For this reason down and feather pillows are hard to maintain, and quickly become unhygienic (bacteria and dustmite colonies usually develop in them after just 6 short months).

Hypoallergienic, safe enough for babies!

While anyone can be allergic to anything, wool allergies, are extremely rare. Indeed, organic wool is a very clean and safe fiber, that’s even safe enough for infants. Our organic wool is 100% organic, natural, and minimally processed without any toxic chemicals.

Because feathers are prone to attracting allergens, there more more chances you’re going to have to replace down pillows after just a few months of sleeping on it.

Certifiably Pure

Here’s a list of things our organic wool doesn’t contain (which regular, and non organic fibers and fabrics often do contain). Our organic wool is free of: flame retardants, Formaldehyde or other short-chain aldehydes, heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, chlorinated benzenes, ammonium compounds and chlorinated paraffins.

Our cotton used for the pillow casings of all our products are Oeko-Tex 100 certified. That level of the Oeko-Tex Certification, means that the product is qualified “Save enough for Infants”. The cotton is also GOTS certified, meaning that the entire process of making the cotton, respects the highest standards of sustainability.
