  1. Sarah

I love this duvet! I hate being hot in bed, and I usually loose a lot of sleep every summer because of the humidity. I’d never seen a hemp duvet before, so I thought I would try it out. The first night I tried it, I didn’t even notice the heat, and I actually slept like a baby. My sleep was 100% uninterrupted by the 30°C weather. If you have trouble sleeping in the summer, I completely recommend this duvet. It might be a little bit more pricey than some, but believe me it’s sooo worth it. It literally made me feel really cool all night long. Couldn’t recommend more.

  2. Mark

I have been doing it all wrong.

I am amazed at what happens when you change that one little thing in your life you are doing wrong. I was using polyester bedding my whole life and did not know a difference. I have been sweating for a long time, especially during summer months. Until I discovered this duvet.

I wrote to them and in 1 day they replied and we had a solution and it worked. I only wish you sold beds as well.

    Thank you for the advice!

The Organic Hemp Duvet

An organic hemp duvet has many benefits for sleeping. It’s great for staying extra cool in the summer, because it’s one of the most breathable and coolest natural materials. An organic hemp duvet is even more breathable and cooler than organic cotton! It stays cool, even in hot & humid temperatures, all night long.

This organic hemp duvet is also perfect for keeping your bedding hygienic, without having to replace it regularly, because organic hemp is naturally anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Also, organic hemp bedding wicks moisture away, so you feel fresh and dry all night. It doesn’t hold onto odours, either.

And thus, if you’re someone who likes to sleep with a cover on – even during the hottest season of the year -, but want to stay cool and dry, an organic hemp duvet is seriously a life changer.

The Landon Organic Hemp Duvet, is a 100% organic hemp duvet, with an organic cotton exterior lining.

How to Care for the
Organic Hemp Duvet?

Your organic hemp duvet is really fuss-free when it comes to washing: no need to wash it!

Organic hemp, because it is naturally anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-dustmite (when processed without chemicals), does not need to be washed. In fact, it shouldn’t be washed – that will definitely ruin the integrity of the hemp.

FAQ

________________________

"What is the best way to take care of an organic hemp duvet?"
All 100% natural duvets – when actually 100% natural – shouldn’t be washed, and in reality, really can’t be washed. But that shouldn’t scare anyone away from making the swap to an organic and natural duvet!

Compared to synthetic duvets, a natural and organic duvet is still much more hygienic than a synthetic one – even without constant washes. Because synthetic materials (and even down & feathers) are very inviting to bacteria, mould and dust mite colonies, synthetic duvets need to be washed regularly.

And, not only does washing synthetics prove to be bad for the environment (see this article about micro-plastics & their effect on our planet), it is also bad for your health. Synthetic materials contain chemicals, which you rub against your skin and breathe while you sleep.

“Where are your duvets made?”
All our organic duvets are skilfully handcrafted in our design studio, near the beautiful Julian Alps in Slovenia. Every Landon Duvet is crafted by the House of Pillows team! The Landon Duvets are made-to-order: that means the Landon Duvet you place an order for, is made specially for you! Yeah… Just taking things “off the shelf” doesn’t feel right to us!
“Is your packaging sustainable, too?”
We package your Landon Duvet in eco-friendly packaging! It’s 100% is recyclable, and the box is high enough quality to be reusable and/or re-purposed (we hear cats like boxes!). There is also a personalised label with your name on it, and a special little message inside The House of Pillows signature blue envelope . Every package is made personal.

Details: Only the box handles are (recyclable) plastic – we’re looking for a better solution! The paper labels on the box are made of biodegradable, natural and recycled paper. They use a natural, water based glue which is more eco-friendly than normal glues. As for the paper and envelopes, they are also sustainably sourced from the UK.

“What do your certifications really mean?”
Certifications give us a higher level of certainty about what kind of materials & supply chains we’re supporting. We currently have the following three certifications. Here is what they mean.

Oeko-Tex 100, Class 1

Oeko-Tex certifies that the materials have been scientifically tested in independent labs, and are certified safe for humans. Certified Class 1 products, are safe enough for babies and toddlers up to 3 years of age. The labs test for all possible levels of toxicity. They make sure the materials don’t contain anything dangerous that would cause harm to a person coming in contact with them. Oeko-Tex labs tests for over 200 toxic elements, including some that aren’t even required by state law to test.

GOTS

GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria. They are backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. The goal of the standard is to have world-wide recognized requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

Fairtrade

The International FAIRTRADE Certification Mark is an independent certification mark used in over 50 countries. It appears on products as an independent guarantee that a product is produced according to Fairtrade political standards.

“What are the benefits of organic cotton?”
Organic cotton is one of the best material for bedding! Indeed, organic cotton is very breathable and transmits moisture away from your skin. This allows you to feel fresh and dry all night. Organic cotton can absorb ⅕ of its weight in moisture, and still feel completely dry. Considering that our bodies release at least 300ml (around 16oz.) of body vapour per night while we sleep, organic cotton comes to the rescue to keep us comfortable and dry.

What’s more, organic cotton provides breathable insulation. It keeps you cool in the summer, and thermal insulation during the winter. And unlike synthetics, organic cotton is hypoallergenic. Indeed, it doesn’t cause skin problems, or make preexisting skin problems (such as eczema, dermatitis) worse. Our high thread count organic cotton, makes our Landon Duvet incredibly soft, super breathable and very durable. It has high tensile strength, making it strong, durable and less likely to rip or tear.

“What is Organic Hemp?”
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. And while organic hemp derives from the same species as the cannabis plant, they are very distinct in composition. Indeed, industrial hemp cannot be used in the same ways. Instead, it is organic hemp grown for a wide variety of products including health food products, sustainable fashion and more! It is also an amazing material for bedding – especially summer bedding!

Learn more about organic hemp on our material presentation page here.

“Where is your Organic Hemp from and how is it processed?”
The organic hemp we use in our organic hemp duvets, is organically grown and organically processed in Slovenia, and we source some of it from the Netherlands as well. From the crop to the end material, our hemp is 100% toxic-free and pesticide free. It is not sprayed with any unhealthy additives, such as artificial flame retardants or chlorinated benzenes.
“Why is organic hemp a great material for summer bedding?”
Organic hemp bedding has many benefits for sleeping – especially in the summer! It’s great for staying extra cool in the summer, as it’s even more breathable than cotton! Air effortly flows between the organic hemp fibers, making it a really cool duvet. Another amazing benefit of organic hemp, is that it repels moisture away from your skin, so you stay cool & dry even when it’s hot and humid! Finally, because organic hemp creates a very dry microclimate, mould, moisture, bacteria and microbes aren’t attracted to it. And so hemp makes for a healthy and hygienic bedding option for the hottest seasons of the year! Never miss a night sleep because of the heat ever again!
“Is organic hemp really that eco-friendly?”
Unequivocally so! The Organic Hemp is resistant to pests and doesn’t need pesticides, herbicides, and barely any fertilisers! Hemp crops grow dense and vigorously. So, sunlight doesn’t penetrate the ground, and this makes it a weed-free crop. The roots of hemp plants go very deep, and hemp plants use ground water, and reduce its salinity. The roots of the organic hemp crops also improve soil. Indeed, they naturally transfer nitrogen and other nutrients into the soil! Hemp can even absorb toxic metals, emitted by nuclear plants into the soil, such as copper, cadmium, lead and mercury. So, organic hemp one of the most sustainable and self-sufficient crops in the world. To learn more about the benefits of organic hemp, visit this page!
